What was your first job?
Disc jockey on a pirate radio station.

How did you get into the IT profession?
I took a test to become a mainframe operator for HM Treasury in the late 1980s.

If you weren’t working in IT, what would you be doing?
Possibly an actor or a barrister ­ there is not a lot of difference.

Which web sites do you have bookmarked at work?
Various technical blogs including Brianmadden.com for the thin client community.

How often do you check your BlackBerry?
Every 30 seconds. If I don’t get a message for five minutes I think email must be down.

Which person do you most admire in the IT industry?
Love or hate him, it has to be Bill Gates.

Which technology has had the biggest impact on your working life?
Citrix and VMware.

Which technology would you most like to have invented?
The iPod.

Which technologies do you most rely on outside the office/at home?
BlackBerry, Asus EeePC and Secure Remote Access via Citrix. I’m always connected.

What has been the most over-hyped technology in the past five years?
Voice over IP has been completely over-hyped.

What keeps you awake?
Nothing, I am not a worrier so I sleep soundly and don’t take my problems home with me.
