It may not be the flashiest looking phone around but the Philips 355 is packed with features. For starters there's a built-in digital camera that is good enough to take snaps to share with friends while you're out and about.

There are three picture resolution and image quality settings to choose from and a selection of colour settings, including black and white and sepia filters. You can also record short sound clips, which can be attached to any image you send via MMS, and there is an option to send photos via email, as the phone supports GPRS. That means you will need a mobile subscription that enables you to send data. Its WAP services can provide up-to-date travel and local information.

Hands-free fans will be pleased to hear that the phone features voice dial and voice command options, and keypad buttons can be programmed as hotkeys.

If the 30 pre-loaded ringtones are not to your taste, you can create your own with the ringtone software that is included.

Verdict

A good range of features at a good price but has little to make it stand out from the crowd.
