NHS trusts across London hope to cut their phone bills by connecting existing voice networks to the N3 national health service broadband infrastructure.
So far 21 organisations have joined the pilot, and another 26 are expected to sign up before the end of the year.
The aims is to use voice over IP on N3 to converge voice and data over a single network and reduce costs.
North West London Hospitals NHS Trust was the first trust to join the pilot.
Trust IT director Rick Juniper, said: "Converging our voice and data provides us with a simple and efficient way to manage our communications needs.
"It also presents a significant opportunity for us to quickly reduce our telephony costs."
N3 is one of Europe’s largest Virtual Private Networks. So far it has 20,000 connections, linking every NHS organisation across England.
