Adobe updates development tool

ColdFusion 8 now available in beta

Written by Phil Muncaster

Presentation tools specialist Adobe Systems has launched a new version of its web development software ColdFusion, designed to offer developers improved efficiency, productivity and simplicity when building web sites and internet applications.

ColdFusion 8, available in beta, features server monitoring and debugging, which help to speed the development process by, for example, allowing developers to identify problems more easily than before.

It also uses Ajax and the Adobe's Flex technology to enable the creation of rich internet applications, and integrates with a broader range of platforms and systems, including .NET, Vista and J2EE servers, according to the firm.

“For any business that uses its web site to interact with employees, or to do business, it is critical that they engage the user as early as possible – captivating their attention and making the web experience significantly more enjoyable," argued Adobe's Ben Forsaith. "ColdFusion 8 and its integration with other technologies such as Flex and Apollo means developers can power personalised, multimedia-rich applications."

In related news, Adobe has also launched version 8 of its Acrobat 3D software, which enables users to convert 3D CAD files into single PDF documents, making it easier for users to create and share 3D data, the firm said.
