The University of London is modernising its financial and business management system to deal more efficiently with its accounts and operational administration.

The university will use the system to remove duplications in its accounting and to bring in eprocurement to streamline its buying processes.

The system will enable responsibility for money management to be devolved to individual budget holders, says the University of London's director of finance Richard Cryer.

'We wanted a single system in use across the central university that would enable us to empower them,' he said.

'We are also looking to the system to help drive through operational efficiencies and facilitate much more timely reporting, for example by eliminating duplication of work.'

The Agresso system will go live at the university early next year and will be used to support its independent halls of residence, distance learning programmes and examination systems.

'The ongoing development of the system is further supported by a strong higher education user group, which has been set up for the sector,' said Cryer.
