Welsh councils team up on property searches

Online system will allow citizens to speed up house buying process

Written by James Brown

Six Welsh councils are collaborating to create an online property search system to save citizens time and money when they are buying houses.

The system is designed to allow people who have to complete land searches while moving house to find information on a property much more easily and quickly than in the past.

The six councils - Conwy County, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Wrexham and Isle of Anglesey, all in North Wales - are adopting the system to deal with the frequent moves of citizens across local authority borders.

In particular the system will aid solicitors in preparing Home Information Packs (Hips) which they will be required to do by law from June 2007.

Electronic searches mean faster searches, which is great news for home movers and businesses, says Capper & Jones solicitors partner Robert Capper.

'When HIPs are introduced next year, home sellers will want their solicitors to complete their packs quickly, so their properties can be marketed within the fastest possible timeframe,' he said.

'Electronic searches will help make this happen.'
