The University of Warwick has selected Cognos business intelligence (BI) software to improve delivery of management information.
The system will give managerial staff better visibility of university data. They will be able to analyse trends across 30 academic departments, 50 research centres and a 16,000-strong student body.
'Our objectives are to provide management with a clear overview of key trends, provide reports by exception and information in a clear and consistent format,' said Des Butcher, senior systems analyst at the University of Warwick.
'This solution will allow managers to drill down into data, improving confidence in the information. By standardising on one BI platform, the IT team will be able to focus on adding value, rather than data input and report creation.'
Hundreds of users will be able to access one version of all data from one new database, drawing on the existing systems and ensuring users can make decisions based on consistent information.
'We drew on recommendations from other universities during the selection process. Cognos clearly understands the pain points of higher education institutions, and its delivery of proof-points and references relevant to our sector was excellent,” said Butcher.
