Allerdale Borough Council is implementing an internet protocol (IP) telephone system to help it deliver better services to the community.
The borough hopes to use the system to achieve operational efficiencies through the better use of IT in its contact centre.
This in turn will free up other staff at the council to concentrate on their duties rather than answer calls from the public.
Stephen Kirkpatrick, Allerdale's IT services manager says the Cisco IP system, which is being fitted by Lynx Technologies, will support the development of better council services.
'We are now looking forward to opening the new Allerdale contact centre over the coming months,' he said.
