The TV company responsible for Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine is overhauling its global web site network with new content management technology.
Hit Entertainment will complete implementation of the system, which allows brand owners to manage their sites directly, by the end of this month.
Ryan Tunstall, Hit Entertainment’s UK IT and operations manager, says a reliance on bespoke content management and manually scheduled updates led to the need for new procedures.
‘We identified that, by standardising on a system across all sites, we could reduce the amount of time and people needed to complete updates. The end result was improved content on the sites for our customers,’ he said.
With 15 sites across 44 regions, receiving 1.5 million unique visitors a day, Tunstall says it was essential to give brand managers ownership of data and responsibility for web updates.
‘We also realised that by implementing the system we are capturing data at the first point of input, rather than duplicating effort,’ he said.
The TV company hopes the new level of quality control will also encourage more visitors to its online stores, which are responsible for £8bn merchandising sales worldwide.
Hit Entertainment is using software from supplier RedDot.
